Independence Day! The day the USA formally declared itself free from British rule.

The date commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776, when the Second Continental Congress approved the document announcing the separation of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain. Although the vote for independence actually occurred on 2 July, the 4th became the symbolic anniversary because it was the day the Declaration was formally adopted

Independence Day is not a public holiday here in England, but it is widely recognised internationally as a major moment in world history — the birth of a new nation!
