WARP DRIVE

Could it really exist? We think so, yes. We know from Einstein that space is like a fabric (called space-time) and that the fabric can be bent or twisted. If we had a technology that would compress space-time at the front of our spaceship and at the same time expand it at the rear of our spaceship then we would have a hyperdrive system. Sounds easy eh? The only way of compressing the fabric of space is to use a large amount of mass (like a star or a black hole). A definite challenge, and one beyond us for the foreseeable future. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible.

BOOKS ON FASTER THAN LIGHT TRAVEL

PHYSICS OF THE IMPOSSIBLE: A SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION OF PHASERS, FORCE FIELDS, TELEPORTATION AND TIME TRAVEL

Bestselling author Micho Kaku confidently hurdles today’s frontier of science, presenting the first truly authoritative exploration of the real science of tomorrow covering perpetual motion, force fields, invisibility, ray guns, anti-gravity and anti-matter, teleportation, telepathy, psychokinesis, robots and cyborgs, faster than light travel, time travel, zero-point energy, extraterrestrial life, even clairvoyance

FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT

This is the story of the most radical idea to have been proposed in the field of physics since Einstein's relativity theory - the suggestion that the speed of light may not be constant. Written by Imperial College lecturer Joao Magueijo, the book also introduces the reader to modern cosmology.
