Science of Sci-Fi

The science of Sci-Fi falls into three broad types:
1. Sci-Fi that when broadcast were seen as impossible, but over time have become a reality. For example, in Star Trek the crew members would talk to each other, and to the ship, using a "communicator" - this was long before mobile phones, this was in the time when phones were connected by a wire through exchanges. Now we have cell towers and hands free operation, and take it for granted!
2. Sci-Fi that seemed pure fantasy, but where we have improved our knowledge and understanding. We are not in a position to build something, but we better understand it. For example, time travel. We undestand now that times does not flow at a steady pace, like a river, but can change in very special situations, causing time to flow at different speeds relative depending on the observers. We can't build a time machine, but we are starting to understand the science, even though it is significantly beyond our technical capabilities.
3. Sci-Fi that seemed pure fantasy and still does. For example a machine that is bigger on the insdie than the outside, or teleportation, to name just two. In these examples we don't understand enough of the science to even make the call that it is pure fantasy, or if in some long distant future there is potential to have the science to build something. At the moment, that seems a very long way off.
