About me

I am a British scientist. A country with a proud history of great scientists.

I completed an honours degree and PhD in the physical sciences, I have been published in scientific journals, I have published patents and I am a fellow of a learned body. I am also a chartered scientist. I live and work in England, and this website is therefore written in English English, so no emails please complaining about colour having an extra u in it!

In addition to the day job, I have volunteered to give science talks at local schools. I just love the how excited young children get, although once they are a little older I find it rather amusing to see teenagers trying to hide with that "please don't pick me" shyness that comes with raging hormones.

I said on the homepage, I created this website to expand on the true science behind science fiction, assuming there is a scientific basis for such a discussion, and bring in fantasy to compare the two.

What has driven me to create Sci-Fi Science? I feel that people, generally, enjoy the topic but are unaware of it. For example, I was in a doctors' surgery recently and overheard two women talking about astrology as if it were a science, when it is plainly not. I asked them if astrology is the same as astronomy, and was horrified to hear that they thought they were different names for the same thing. Our education system failed these two women, sadly.

Sci-Fi Science contains scientific facts and my personal views suitable for the general public. If you want to see a particular topic discussed, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
